The Aran Valley has had a hired avalanche expert for 25 years now. Since the 2003/2004 season, with the addition of a second expert, the local government (Conselh Generau d’Aran) has steadily been increasing the offer of activities and products related to safety and avalanches. In the 2010/2011 season, the team added a third member with a more scientific profile, with the aim of promoting applied research. This resulted in the creation of the Aran Valley Avalanche Centre located in Casau.
Today, our main tasks include:
– Avalanche Forecasting: daily advisory aimed at mountaineers issued at 08:00; local forecasting for the Beret and Bonaigua roads.
– Mapping: Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES).
– Research: several lines of applied research
